Annapurna
Puja is devoted to Goddess Annapurna and is a major ritual in eastern
parts of India, The puja is mainly performed by women and it is dedicated
to Goddess Annapurna an aspect of Parvati, which nourishes the world
through food. It is observed during the waxing stage of moon (Shukla
Paksha) in Chaitra month as per Bengali calendar. In 2009, the date
of Annapurna Puja is April 3.
Goddess Annapurna is the aspect of Mother Nature that nourishes all
living beings. At Kashi, Lord Shiva is believed to be taking food
in a begging bowl from Goddess Parvati. Nourishment is needed for
the attainment of knowledge. Goddess Annapurna nurtures us and prepares
us for self realization.
Women and children recite the Annapurna Stotram on the Annapoorna
Pooja day. Special idols of Goddess Annapurna are installed at home
and in public pandals. Pujas and rituals as per traditions are conducted
